About this artwork
In this painting, I sought to explore the philosophy of the number 4 by arranging four fruits in a perfect geometric shape—a square—ensuring that nothing in the composition feels superfluous. The fruits are interconnected, forming angles that lend the piece a sense of strength and harmony. The symmetry of the square further enhances the feeling of balance and stability.
The number 4 in my composition is created by combining 3 and 1, as I added… one lemon to three apples for variety.
I deliberately avoided using gray or muted tones, ensuring that both the fruits and the background remain bright and vibrant, giving the painting an almost glowing quality. My goal was to convey subtle color gradations as effectively as possible. To achieve this, I used my signature palette knife technique, where each stroke introduces a distinct color—much like a mosaic—while also adding a textured, relief-like surface to the artwork.
