About this artwork
Titles are always important for me. I give a lot of thought to them. They make me think hard about what could have been my motivation for making the painting. It may seem odd that I don't analyse, or know, at the outset what inspired me - that I am never sure why I make the choices as to what to paint and how to do it. I have learned to trust my intuition and just do what feels 'right' in the hope that eventually I will understand 'why'. I could…
have called this "Chasing rainbows" or "Naked ambition" but I eventually settled on "Unattainable", which I hope isn't too negative. The figure striving to grasp the light could be a metaphor for frustration or aspiration - or both. I guess that this, like all my images, could be seen as a metaphor for my own struggle to express the inexpressible.
