About this artwork
This photograph is inspired by the artist Man Ray's style, particularly his surrealist works exploring details of the human body with high contrast and unusual framing. The emphasis on texture, light and abstraction of forms is found in photographs such as Le Violon d'Ingres. Man Ray often used lighting techniques to transform ordinary elements into mysterious artistic objects, which is what I imagined here with the eyelid and eyelashes.
