About this artwork
Again inspired by my first surfing experience and a combined fear and love of the sea. This piece capturing the boost of energy required to catch the wave and the expectation of getting up on the board, remembering everything I've been told to do! It is accompanied by a short poem:
give me your best
meet me half way
give me your best
meet me half way

Nicholas Ferguson is a British-Swiss painter who works primarily in oils, integrating pastel, pencil, poetry, and even fragrance-soaked fabric, with a background in branding and an emotionally-driven studio practice shaped by global travel. His style is instinctive and improvisational, shifting from loose gestural marks to detailed symbolism, often channeling the sitter’s energy and autobiographical or archetypal themes. His paintings explore identity, vulnerability, longing, and human texture, serving as emotional mirrors—tender places for reflection and the tender mystery of being alive. In addition to Nicholas’ themed collections of work, he is an acclaimed portrait artist known to capture the spirit of his sitters.
