About this artwork
This is a beach bonfire scene, where the female in the middle of the composition has just said something to the man on the left which is threatening to him in some way. Obscured by the heat and smoke of the fire is another male figure on the right, playing guitar. It is a revisitation of the story of Joan of Arc, where a woman is victorious over men, but this time she is lit up by the fire in all her splendor, instead of consumed by the flames

« What keeps me coming back to painting is to watch something I only dreamt of taking physical form, and in that process surpass the dream. »
