"Les Battures" offers an impressionistic and expressive interpretation of the Saint Lawrence River located in Quebec. The dominant colors, blue and white, evoke the immensity of the river and the sky, while touches of green and brown suggest the presence of the earth and the riverside vegetation. The light is diffuse and vibrant, bathing the entire scene in a sunny atmosphere typical of Quebec landscapes.
Finally, this painting is influenced by… abstract expressionism. It is perceptible in the freedom of gesture and the importance given to emotion. Nicole does not seek to faithfully represent a landscape, but rather to translate her feelings and perception of it through the pictorial material.
