About this artwork
Passing Clouds is a landscape in the Abstract Expressionist style. It features a use of broad, visible palette knife strokes and a freedom in the depiction of forms. Nicole used the impasto technique, with thick, textured, and overlapping layers of paint in the land, water, and cloud areas. The color palette is dominated by cool tones for the sky and sea: various shades of blue (from deep blue to light turquoise), mint green (with touches of sea…
green in the sky). For the land, there are warm, earthy tones: shades of brown (from dark brown to lighter brown), with touches of red and ochre that bring warmth, light, and contrast.
