About this artwork
It's almost difficult to explain how a work like this comes to life; it's not a linear process, but rather a silent dialogue between my hand, the canvas, and the paint.
It all begins with a void, a blank canvas waiting to be inhabited. In that moment, I don't have a defined form in mind, but an emotion, a thrill pressing to emerge. The title, "Beyond the Gaze," expresses exactly this: my desire to go beyond what I see every day, to seek a truth… that lies beneath the surface.
I began by applying turquoise and green. I wanted to create a sort of "backdrop," a dense, almost liquid atmosphere. I didn't just use a brush; the textured technique requires physical involvement. I wanted the painting to have its own geography, mountains and valleys that the eye could almost caress. As I built that density of blue and bronze, I felt the need for a break. It was the moment the work began to speak.
