By collecting discarded objects and artifacts he came across on the streets of London, Nikola observes their correspondence with the forms he cultivates in his paintings, and he attempts to fully affirm them, in their form, with the forms we see in his paintings; through a new special, shared monochromatic identity. This series tracks the journey of a found object that was once part of a newspaper, magazine, product, or text, in a much more specific… context. This new context in a new format, and even in a new dimension, evolves into a new identity which, for Nikola, grows into a new separate whole. This new identity, which in its intensity equates with the monochrome in intensity, merges with painted biomorphic forms, or drawn biomorphic forms on the panels themselves. Together, such forms create some new and comprehensively different particles that indicate, through their metamorphosis, the definitiveness of a different kind of freedom.
Nikola Savic, born in Belgrade, Serbia, 1973. Nikola lives and works in London since he completed his master’s degree in fine art at the Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design in 1999. Nikola explores, the colour and form in his paintings in a kind of neo formalist way, where the colour is in the most of his paintings super flat but strongly led by hard edged and reconstructed mechanical sort of forms. Literally this is some sort of new abstract order where square and monochrome elements (under the speed of everyday and sort of imminent must have society) are turning into biomorphic shapes. Nikola Savic works are in the collections of Dr. Takashige Shimizu, Tokyo; Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade; European Diamonds Plc, London; Bank of America Merrill Lynch, London; Rollo Contemporary, London; Salon Vert, London; Christiaan Rook London; Zvono Gallery Belgrade, American Embassy Belgrade; Radix Collection Belgrade; and many more private collections in Europe, Far East and USA.
