About this artwork
This is a work from a series in which I used old letters from my grandmother to my uncle (in 1967) in Tokyo. The personal, small problems and everyday life of an individual contrast with the figure who appears to float in space. The red "silver cord" connects the human being between the sphere of humanity and their connection to the cosmos.
The figure appears to float lost in space, yet it is held in place by the stable "silver cord" that prevents… it from being lost. The background of the image depicts the dynamic events in the cosmos.
This image prompts reflection on the relationship between humanity and its cosmic origin as a "starseed".

Nils Hoffmann works as a painter with roots in graphic design and extensive experience in landscape painting, abstract art, mixed media, and collage. His works integrate natural found objects—wood, roots, seeds, leaves, or thorns—as well as man-made objects such as rusted iron or old prints, etc., using diverse techniques such as painting, collage, layering, or monotype. His artworks are mostly dense, process-oriented compositions that express both intuition and his devotion to the respective subject matter, conveying with a mysterious intensity a deep connection to nature—and Mother Earth—and to the existential power of the elements.
