About this artwork
A single wing fills almost the entire picture surface. Another bird, perhaps that of another bird, completes the composition. The Latin title "Volatus" means "flight". The painter interpreted this phenomenon by depicting two wings; he dispensed with a naturalistic rendering of a bird, making the vision of flight itself the subject. This picture could be hung upright in two versions. New observations and associations arise spontaneously.
