Lust is one of seven deadly sins which is represented by the cow for being a shameless animal. On the upper right and lower left of the painting, are the Chinese words 欲望, the verb form of ‘lust’. Written on the upper left side is the inscription ‘They are in the very wrath of love, and they will together; clubs cannot part them’, from As You Like It by William Shakespeare.
