Inspired by the Day of the Dead festivities, this work is a celebration of eternal love that defies the boundaries of life and death. The focal point of the narrative is a gesture of profound tenderness: one skull gently kissing the cheek of another, reminding us that affection survives time and the physical body. I use sequins, which act as flashes of light reflecting the joy of remembrance, transforming death into a celebration of color, sparkle,… and unconditional love.
Odilia Mezquia is a painter who graduated from the San Alejandro Academy in Havana, with extensive experience since 1988. Her technique fuses lived surrealism with vibrant contrasts, creating atmospheres where the impossible becomes familiar, exploring the human figure, the urban landscape, and animals. Her works convey energy and healing color, inviting viewers to question, be moved, and explore metamorphosis and identity through a deeply emotional narrative.
