About this artwork
I love visiting the Banff area and one of my favourite things to do in the summer is to canoe down the Bow river from Banff to Canmore. It really allows you to take in all the sights at a nice pace, as you don’t even need to paddle, just float, steer around the occasional rapids, and sip on a cold bevvy. All the while enjoying the stunning views in every direction.
This particular scene really hit me with the sunlight pouring down over the edge… of the mountain and lighting everything up with a shimmering glow. I also loved how the human figures are dwarfed by the scale of the mountains while the red kayaks add a pop of colour to the painting.

« My art is about capturing a place. When I paint, I feel like I am there, and that is what I want to translate to the viewer. »
Growing up in the Ukraine, Olga Rybalko was fascinated by a promenade where artists would showcase their work, and was particularly drawn to the marine landscapes. Immigrating to Canada at 13 presented new opportunities for travel and inspiration. Rybalko presents her landscapes in an impressionistic, abstract style, layering oils over acrylic. The results are sublime landscapes, clearly inspired by her love of the outdoors.
