The sculpture Simargl belongs to the series of works "Slavic mythology".
Simargl was the favorite mythological creature of Ivan the Terrible. The king's throne legs were carved from wood and represented sleeping winged dogs.
The spring holiday of the Slavs was dedicated to Simarglu. The holiday is the beginning of the sowing season. On this holiday, people followed the plow in a circle, going around the whole village or city with a deep furrow.… This symbolic furrow also brought quite real practical benefits, preventing the spread of fires of spring dead wood, that is, it served as a fire furrow.
The winged dog Simargl is believed to have lived on a giant tree of all seeds. In the spring, when nature awakens from sleep, Simargl jumps on the branches of the tree and shakes off the seeds with his paws, dropping them on the ground and thereby sowing arable land and bringing people a future harvest and abundance.
