About this artwork
This painting shows an imaginary room with a bed and a basket chair. The walls and curtains seem to dissolve and hint at what is beyond the room. A few things stand out such as the pattern on the bedspread, a two-handled vase and a pair of children's shoes which look a bit like faces. The painting is claustrophobic and slightly menacing, but offers an escape route through day-dreaming.

Olivia Irvine is a contemporary Scottish painter who currently resides in Edinburgh. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and then received a Spanish Government scholarship to study in Madrid; this exposure to the painterly quality of Spanish art influences her dreamlike figurative works.
