About this artwork
A man on stilts is dressed as a giant butterfly. He is wearing yellow silk trousers, a white shirt, patterned waistcoat, hat and dark wings. Behind him is the sky and tops of trees. The image came from two sources; a recent Indian circus the artist attended and the memory of 'The Insect Play' by Karel Capek the artist saw when she was a child.

Olivia Irvine is a contemporary Scottish painter who currently resides in Edinburgh. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art and then received a Spanish Government scholarship to study in Madrid; this exposure to the painterly quality of Spanish art influences her dreamlike figurative works.
