About this artwork
The red, strikingly, is not expression. It is an imposition. It sits on top of the body rather than emerging from it. The identity here is applied, not inhabited.
The face in red almost functions like a mask that never fully aligns with the blurred figure behind. The body remains ambiguous, but the features are exaggerated, externalized. It feels like identity constructed through perception rather than self-authorship.
The duplication across the… series reinforces that. The gaze, the mouth, all are fragmented. In almost anatomical disassembly, the self becomes a site of projection.
There’s also a political undertone in this piece.
The female body is obscured, softened, while the defining features are aggressively painted over it. It suggests societal scripting : identity as something pressed onto the surface.
The red reads as force. Surveillance. Cultural expectation. The tension is a structural pressure. There is no vulnerability in such space. Just control.
