About this artwork
The biology, mechanics if you will, of pregnancy and childbirth fascinate me. There is, of course, the obvious external changes seen in the mother. However, it was the 'internal' that I was consumed with understanding. How the body, becomes home to a baby? This is intrigued me and was the subject of some of my most challenging work, both in concept and material. Although much has changed in birthing techniques and pre and postnatal care, the last…
few hundred years, I thought it was interesting how much of the mother is given to producing a child, from the inside. Where the magic is.
