In my town, some years back, I remembered the public outrage of a physically assaulted old lady, but her story faded, her face became unfocused, and the reality of her experience thereafter disappeared from public consciousness. Only waiting to bring the next victim into focus who will be tied to the same destiny.
I wonder how much that publicly forgotten women’s experience now defines, and probably even restricts her in some way? How can it not?… /
A woman I met recently was the victim of physical violence. Of the physical injuries, nature and medical care took care of the healing. The trauma of the event, however, was far more constraining. The urban world, which once had offered every wish and pleasure was now terrifying.
