About this artwork
This artwork was inspired by the tarot car number 18 "The Moon" with the two pillars in the background and the number eighteen in roman, symbols found on the tarot card. The moon, another symbol on the card, is the last crescent of a new moon an import phase to bring new beginnings, The figure front and center is connected to to the moon, though unaware, the atmosphere is bending to her gaze. The oracle is conducting a sky-clad ritual keys in her…
had to honor Hekate, bosom on the wall use to clear the space and three candles on the window sill for honoring the triple goddess. The white peacock feathers in her turban and sign on the back wall reading "Know Thy Self" are nods to the Delphic maxims and the oracle centered in the painting is the head oracle of the Delphi, Pythia.
In its creation I was really trying to show a timelessness to the image where a modern look has ancient roots and how the primal mystic can overcome the illusion of separation from our environment through magic.
