About this artwork
I think the greatest artist of all time is nature itself, that all artist are trying to emulate that beauty when we make our own art. When I sit down to create a nice landscape painting like this I can't help but be amazed at how a simple sunset on an old aqueduct can illuminate such a huge spectrum of color on what would have started as a gray and dull afternoon. Nature seems to be able to take a dull gray day and break the clouds and show you a… breath taking visual meal of color so effortlessly, and while this took me a good amount of effort, that is what I was trying to emulate here in this landscape. I tried to capture the colorful shapes on the gray rocks and the vibrant warm colors of each field stretching to hillside where a hidden sun is settling in the horizon tucked behind the soft pink and purple clouds.
Opus Farrell, an American painter and sculptor with a background shaped by his pagan upbringing and military service, works primarily in painting but also explores sculpture. He bridges realism and impressionism, capturing lifelike subjects with expressive brushwork, vibrant color tones, and intentionally unfinished elements that lend a painterly quality. His art is rich in pagan symbolism, but also celebrates moments of pure aesthetic beauty, evoking awe for nature’s wonder and a reverence for the world’s hidden magnificence.
