About this artwork
"But my body was like a harp and her words and gestures like fingers on its strings": this is how James Joyce (book "Dublin People") inspired me to create this pencil drawing on paper. The figure of a harp, which dominates on the left, floods the scene caressing the soul and body of the two figures who perhaps join together in a final, passionate embrace. Souls vibrate with its melody, bodies unravel between its broken strings. This work expresses…
vibrant human emotions, intertwining realism and expressionism. I used pencil to capture the delicacy of shapes and the depth of the soul, exploring human nature in a dance between light and shadow. Paola Imposimato is an award-winning painter and draftsman whose works have been extensively exhibited throughout her native Italy, as well as in Austria and France. She defines her artistic style as "contemporary Renaissance", as it has a solid figurative base that is also structured on Greco-Roman art. Imposimato is often inspired by portraiture (of real and imaginary characters), the range of human emotions, poetry, historical re-enactments, the world of music and theater.
