About this artwork
I created this work by reusing an old painting that no longer suited me. The concept of palimpsest, which evokes the idea of writing erased to be rewritten, perfectly symbolizes my way of working. Rather than denying the past or completely erasing the initial work, I let it show through, in a cohabitation between the old and the modern, between memory and novelty. The old forms, sometimes visible through the layers of paint or the reliefs, become…
a kind of visual subtext, a dialogue between the previous work and the one I am creating.
The use of acrylic allows me to experiment with textures and transparencies that enrich this idea of superimposed layers. I also wanted to echo the work of Chu Teh Chun, whose work I admire.
