PALIMPSEST PROJECT (Acrylic)
My artistic approach for my project "Palimpsest" is part of an approach of recovery and transformation, where I give new life to forgotten works by integrating them into my own creative process. By recovering old paintings, often abandoned, I revive their history in a new form, by superimposing a new work, like a palimpsest.
The concept of palimpsest, which evokes the idea of writing erased to be rewritten, perfectly… symbolizes my way of working. Rather than denying the past or completely erasing the initial work, I let it show through, in a cohabitation between the old and the modern, between memory and novelty. The old forms, sometimes visible through the layers of paint or the reliefs, become a kind of visual subtext, a dialogue between the previous work and the one I am creating.
This work is the first in this series.
