About this artwork
Acacia, wrought iron, acrylic paint. Oak plinth.
The Lookouts awaken us to verticality. They invite us ..... to observe this changing world ..... to stop ....... to live the present moment well.
From their mouths, they speak to us in silence ....
They are carved from an acacia trunk and then painted to highlight the relief. The color emphasizes the volume.
Their large Watchers eyes are forged in the fire of the forge. (They remind us of licorice.)…
Beyond the invitation to stop and ask ourselves the essential questions, there is also humor and the second degree in these Lookouts.
Confidence ..... exchange .... silence ..... transcendence

« Art is useless, ... but we know what becomes of a society without Art. Art must allow man to question the meaning of his life. But you also need a little humor. »
Patrick Blanchandin’s anthropomorphic vertical sculptures invite contemplation and ‘a pause to observe this changing world’. He also incorporates humorous elements into his compositions by adding glasses to his ‘Watchers’, as a commentary on our distorted viewpoints. Blanchandin invites us to ‘stop and find our original gaze’. His pieces are carved from acacia wood, then painted, before being embellished with leather and wrought iron.
