About this artwork
Living in an alpine environment at an altitude of 1800 m, I wake up each morning facing the Mont Blanc massif, in a light and atmosphere that is different every day. The "Drus", well known to mountaineers, represent for me one of the majestic emblems of this massif.
My inspiration was to represent this "rock monument" in its clarity and all its power, but at the same time to express it slightly concealed by the mists of a white day, thus adding… mystery and silence to the subject.
Since the "atmospheric" characteristic of the work was essential, it was nevertheless important for me to paint the details rigorously, even to the point of hyperrealism.
This acrylic painting, created from a photograph, required a grid on the canvas to accurately depict the characteristics of the wall. Numerous layers were applied empirically.
until the desired result is achieved, in particular this misty atmosphere, typical of a whiteout.
Patrick Egger, a self-taught painter born in Switzerland, uses acrylic on canvas and draws deep inspiration from his Alpine surroundings and his past as a forestry engineer. He has mastered hyperrealism, working in successive layers, precise gridding, and the superimposition of atmospheric effects to capture the poetic essence of the mountains. His technique emphasizes light and shadow, merging rigor and emotion. In his landscapes, he conveys the power, silence, and mystery of nature, inviting the viewer to experience the profound and contemplative beauty of the Alps.
