“Game” - The barker and his dissent, Jemma el-Fna (assembly of the dead), the square named after the public executions that have been carried out there since around 1050, a UNESCO Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2001, an open-air theater where every day the spectacle of storytellers recounts and passes on urban legends and the ancient history of Morocco, of musicians playing and tuning instruments, of women drawing tattoos…
with henna, of snake charmers, of the thousand chefs who, armed with grills, emerge as evening falls, of groups of men betting: their dirhams bet on the numbers, the fleeting moment when, as the still-twirling coin lands on the number ten, the barker expresses his dissent with a penetrating gaze accompanied by a wave of his hand.
