About this artwork
This is the piece through which Paul garnered an accolade in the Long Live Rembrandt competition in 2019. The task was to create a work in commemoration of the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt's passing, one that somehow evoked the spirit of Rembrandt. Paul painted this child's visage, with a noteworthy feature being that the light emanates from an unexpected angle, much akin to the way the Master of Light himself would often depict it. In this instance,…
the light descends from below, perhaps from a candle or a campfire, lending it an ethereal quality reminiscent of Rembrandt's mastery of illumination.
The prize bestowed upon him was the opportunity to partake in the exhibition of the winners at the illustrious Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the very abode of Rembrandt himself!
