About this artwork
Painted three days before a seizure, this work remained in storage for years before I returned to it.
At the time, I had no language for what I was doing and no intention beyond painting itself. I painted what I was seeing.
Looking back now, I recognize early traces of themes that would later continue through my work—layered forms, emerging figures, interior spaces, and environments that seemed to exist before I understood them.
This painting predates… both the memory-palace imagery and the Neuro-Expressionist work that followed. Because of that, I do not see it as a beginning as much as a witness.
Over time, it became the first panel in what I think of as a personal storyboard: seeing, transition, and direction.
Not every painting explains itself immediately. Some wait years before revealing where they belong.
