About this artwork
In this recent body of work, I wanted to introduce singular, almost totemic trees that carry silent narratives within their branches. Their forms — at times fractal, at times fluid — seem to rise from a liminal ground, suspended between sky and water, between the visible and the unseen. Paul Émile Rioux, a Montreal-based artist and photographer with a hybrid background (film, communication, marketing, and image), has been exploring digital creation and photography since the 1990s. He works between abstraction and figuration, constructing virtual landscapes that he models in 3D, intentionally incorporating algorithmic anomalies. His light dilates time and blurs perception, immersing the viewer in fascinating transitional spaces between reality and fiction. He seeks to evoke cognitive vertigo and wonder, inviting everyone to question their perception of the world and their personal memories of places.
