The photograph was created in the Gemäldegalerie Berlin through different movements of an analog camera. These movements give the photographic object a new appearance, so that it is only partially or no longer identifiable. Acceleration, deceleration, standstill and chance determine the degree of abstraction. The images refuse to provide insight into visible reality, even though the title refers to precisely this reality.
The image was exposed… on slide film with an analog camera, then scanned in raw format, but not subsequently digitally altered!
Paul Gross’ photographs have been extensively exhibited in both Germany and Japan. Within his art, he explores and expands the limits of classic photography. The relationship between photography and object plays an important role in all of Gross’ work. Using various techniques and equipment, including movement and exposure time, objects in his pieces can appear abstract and bizarre. Thereby the object loses its function as a “memory aid”, blurring the definition and limitations of the medium.
