Potsdamer Platz
Potsdamer Platz is an important public square and transport hub in the center of Berlin.
The photograph was created using a specially manufactured machine that rotates an analog camera 360° in space, creating a unique perspective. The continuous rotation of the camera captures individual moments in a fluid motion and blends them into a seamless overall image. This technique creates a dynamic representation of the space, seemingly… suspending time and blurring the boundaries between past, present, and future.
The image was exposed on slide film with an analog camera, then scanned in raw format, but not subsequently digitally altered!
Paul Gross’ photographs have been extensively exhibited in both Germany and Japan. Within his art, he explores and expands the limits of classic photography. The relationship between photography and object plays an important role in all of Gross’ work. Using various techniques and equipment, including movement and exposure time, objects in his pieces can appear abstract and bizarre. Thereby the object loses its function as a “memory aid”, blurring the definition and limitations of the medium.
