Heartbeat, breathing, body movement, and the exposure time determine the degree of abstraction of the image. The picture thus denies insight into visible reality,… even though the title alludes to it.

Paul Gross’ photographs have been extensively exhibited in both Germany and Japan. Within his art, he explores and expands the limits of classic photography. The relationship between photography and object plays an important role in all of Gross’ work. Using various techniques and equipment, including movement and exposure time, objects in his pieces can appear abstract and bizarre. Thereby the object loses its function as a “memory aid”, blurring the definition and limitations of the medium.
