When I find old, broken, rotten, ruined things on the street or next to the garbage bin, I often find myself attracted to their beauties. I try to listen to and understand their stories and histories. After picking them up, I try to imagine how to convey their stories in my art in which I often apply one of Japanese aesthetic concepts, Mono no Awáré, It is a sensitive, emphatical response to the ephemeral world, and transient state of things. … In this Mujoh (Nothing permanent) series, I incorporate with Noh mask used in the traditional Noh theater in Japan. Each mask represents different emotions. In #1, I used the mask, Young Woman, because her smile is saying to me, "Everything is OK even though everything will be gone sooner or later."
Old rotten wood represents impermanence, .
Noh mask represents someone or some other beings watching it and smiling at from above.
