About this artwork
The Clay Cliffs are a strange phenomenon. They are deposits from the receding southern ice cap and are full of colour and strange shapes. Paul stumbled across them, when exploring the interior of the South Island, New Zealand and he has since returned to study and photograph the area, whilst soaking up the strange mystery and stillness of these imposing outcrops. The paintings are a response to these memories and experiences.

« I paint not only what I see, but what I experience, what I remember and what I feel. »
Paul McKee is a UK based painter.
He has travelled widely and spends many months each year, at sea. His compositions are expressive interpretations of familiar subjects, including landscapes, seascapes, still-lifes, and nudes, as well as ancient myths and stories. McKee's artistic approach incorporates the joy of mark-making with elements of chance. He creates using oils, watercolours, charcoal, pastels, and inks on canvas and paper. His work is gestural, heartfelt and full of life.
