About this artwork
I am spending more time thinking about the human figure in sculpture, and believe that in its abstract form, it makes a powerful connection with the imagination. The abstract sculpture suggests, and the imagination fills in the rest.
This sculpture is made in steel and has a variety of surface finishes. High glossy details, contrast with the main body of the sculpture which is worked with an emulsion paint leaving a visible texture. Some surfaces… have been worked with a layer of surface colour.
It is mounted on a oak base, which has a darkened oil finish.
The sculpture can be scaled up if required, to become a floor standing work , most likely made from aluminium, which would make it non corrosive and suitable for any outdoor environment.
The sculpture is in an edition of4, this being 1/4

« Abstract sculptures tickle the imagination; a viewer may remark, "It reminds me of..." »
Paul Stein is an established South African sculptor who first discovered the magic and power of art as a child, when he was captivated by the photos his father would project onto a screen through Kodachrome slides. Despite the majority of his works carrying an abstract style, he draws heavily on life as we know it, shaping his sculptures to reflect the human spirit and allowing imagination to fill in the rest. His overall body of work is defined by curves and sweeping forms.
