About this artwork
I have represented the female melanocetus because it symbolically represents a matriarchal way of life and reproduction. When this species was first studied, all individuals were female. What could be observed was that the females had small parasites attached to their bodies, which could be identified as the males of this species.
The males of these fish do not have a digestive system, which makes them incapable of living independently for a long… time, being considered parasites of the female.
