About this artwork
The pictures that Gulden finds always bear the burden of the years. If this image reminds him of any fruit, it is the olive that Odysseus saw. Only this imagination turns it into something that gives reason to linger. Something seen long before the photo gaze atrophied our vision.
For these small formats on painting boards covered with canvas, Gulden has developed special shadow gap frames with magnet attachment, which enable the exhibits to be… exchanged easily and without tools.

« Max Frei brings the memory of things into play. Things pick up the events in which they participate. Difficult enough to learn about it from animals or plants, but from things? Why not? Humans invented smoke signals, speaking clouds. Characters carved in stone. Learned to read tracks. And don't we talk every day to the devices that we invented to be in contact with the whole world? So why not ask the clouds or the river. The river whose waves are complex mirrors. The clouds that are like thoughts, constantly changing, incomprehensibly diverse. »
