An urban collage portrait of rapper Yolandi Visser from the South African band Die Antwoord. This portrait is made from paper sourced in Berlin. When I was in Berlin I stumbled upon a Die Antwoord tourposter hanging on the wall. I took it and gathered other postermaterial in Berlin to make this portrait. I love the Die Antwoord concept; music, art, video art. I love the world they created and have their music regularly banging in my studio. Yolandi…
has such an iconic look. I just had to make a portrait of her. As I was working on her prolific hairstyle I noticed it looked a bit like a lion's mane. I liked that since they have their roots in Africa so I gave her even more powefull manes. I also made a portrait of Ninja to complete faces of the band.
