About this artwork
"Close Ties 1" asks the view to contemplate ties and connections that bind us all. The vertical forms are held in place by hand carved contrasting timber components. The timbers are Western Australian White Cypress Pine, the darker timber is Jam / Acacia Acuminata. The finish is tung oil that has been burnished by hand.

Peter Kovacsy is an experienced Australian artist with international exposure. His contemporary, minimalist sculptures are created with various woods, metals, glass, and ceramics. Kovacsy's pieces are simplistic forms deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted. Peter’s work has been featured in exhibitions at SOFA Chicago as well as many national and international collections including the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the Wesfarmers collection, and the Detroit Institute of Art.
