About this artwork
A picture from the storming of the Capitol in Washington in 2021, about the influence of people.
Populism blinds; it seeks distraction. Here we see the actor who uses stereotypes, protected by his appearance, removed from reality and losing touch with reality. Fiction becomes truth, the image dissolves. The figure in a space between reality and history, the force of nature resisting its actions, rears up, locking it up like a prisoner.

Credentials
- Works on commission
Peter Schmitz works primarily in oil on canvas, ink, ballpoint pen, and watercolor, and studied graphic design at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. His works are representational, but contain abstract elements and are often composed in a collage-like manner. Through his stage-set-like compositions and dramatically positioned figures, he addresses social injustices and invites the viewer to emotionally reflect on our coexistence and our connection with nature.
