About this artwork
Spatial collage. This work consists of 4 parts of 70 x 100 cm each. Wood, cardboard, paper, illustrations, glue.
With the Netherlands as my starting point, I made this fictional oblong map of a city, which you can see as a self-portrait (without buildings), but surrounded by the countryside. The Netherlands as one large urban area. A model for a city executed exclusively in cardboard and paper without distracting events, frills and beauty. City… as a metaphor for the development of myself. Fragmentation, broken down history. My work comes from scribbles / pencil sketches. During this scribbling a lot goes through my mind. These scribbles merge into -plate-collages should be the main form (motif) of a map, a building, a street and so on.
Doodles become things. Doodles completely out of the blue. During scribbling contours appear which I respond to again. Outlines become coherence. And cohesion becomes a thing. Scribbling creates a direct line between feeling and doing. Doing is a re
