About this artwork
With a variety of materials such as acrylic, ink, sand, putty and parchment paper, Petra Knauer creates a turbulent, dramatic atmosphere. The tension created in the image is also transferred to the outer form by the stretcher frame, which is slightly bent inwards, as a result of the application of material.
Driven by a dark towering force that dominates the background like a tornado, turbulent water with high spray fountains crashes against a dam… made of mighty, natural stones. The pent-up forces of nature unload unstoppably. The protective dam breaks, the water makes its way. It has the power to destroy life and existence. Suggested light behind the dark appearance, a delicate turquoise, which is also reflected by the breaking water, hopefully indicates an early end to the clash of the forces of nature and points to the positive importance of water for the emergence of new life.
