This acrylic on khadi paper is an illustration from the artist's book, Two Black Cats at the Museum of Modern Art. It depicts a painting in the Museum and the two cats, Moto and Kozo, who have entered the Museum at night and are exploring the art. As they explore the Museum, paintings come to life. Characters leap off of canvases and objects fall out of the paintings and onto the floor. At first the two cats are puzzled, but the longer they explore,…
the more they come to interact with the paintings. The story is an allegory for an experience that the artist had with his two children in London's Museum of Mankind.

Phil Dynan is an American painter and sculptor who has exhibited his works throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. With a career spanning over 50 years, he has experimented with varying styles and mediums. Having mainly used serigraphy and acrylics in his art, he now paints using water-based oils, which facilitates blending. Dynan also creates mixed-media sculptures made from birchwood and plaster.
