About this artwork
There is a feint element of recognisability which depends entirely on the perception and thoughts of each individual who comes across the sculpture.
The more time spent in front of the sculpture is rewarded by myriad possibilities and interpretations. Burst III has an affecting presence that will change according to the observer’s mind and time of day
The sculpture is a combination of control and chance. Sand-casting is quite different from the… lost wax technique more commonly used for sculpture – using a pattern that is deliberately very thin in places there is no telling where the bronze will fail to run to create intriguing shapes. Unpacking the casting from it’s sand mould is a moment of hesitation followed by joy and excitement.
The bronze ring rotates freely on a slate composite base allowing any side or angle to be selected.
Burst is a series of variations – the outer circumference is shared and the only similarity.
