Since the start of 2020, Phil Tyler has embarked on a new body of paintings
collectively entitled the Ensemble series During Xmas 2019 museum visitors milled around the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam, looking at the paintings of Velazquez, Frans Hals and Rembrandt forming Baroque tableaus, ensembles of people, acting out some silent drama in a cavernous space of light and dark. These have their roots in the Hive series of commuter paintings and the… At the Gallery series from the early 21st C.

Philip Tyler is a painter, draftsman, and printmaker based in the United Kingdom whose works have been exhibited in England and Poland. In addition, his art is featured in the permanent collections of the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, the Peterborough City Gallery, etc. Tyler is fascinated by images that fuse physicality with opticality, which he refers to as "the idea of chaos and exactitude".
