About this artwork
Drawing with black chalk on paper. The old oak tree is characterized by its rough bark and deep hollows in the trunk. Every detail speaks of years of storms and sun. Yet it stands powerfully in the small clearing in the forest. My drawing is intended to bring the quiet strength and deep-rooted history of this tree to life, so that it fills the space with its timeless, calming energy.

Philipp Schomaker is a self-taught painter and draftsman with a scientific background who has been working with oil painting and soft pastels since childhood. He works both with a meticulous attention to detail, using delicate lines and gradual color transitions, and more experimentally with a reduced color palette, inspired by Anders Zorn. His style oscillates between realistic depictions of nature and gentle interpretation. His works convey a deep connection to nature and make the emotional essence of animal and plant motifs tangible for the viewer.
