About this artwork
In 1954, the name Jazz Messengers was first used for the quintet, now composed of Blakey, Silver, Hank Mobley, Kenny Dorham, and Doug Watkins. In 1956, they recorded a self-titled album for the Columbia label. With Silver's departure from the group, it became Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, a name it retained until the drummer's death. In this work, I wanted to capture the strength and depth of a contained emotion. The powerful contrasts of blue…
and black express both melancholy and determination. Each brushstroke reveals an inner intensity, a silent struggle. This portrait will bring a vibrant and emotive presence, adding a unique depth to your space.

« Painting and creation, in general, are the best ways to deliver what words cannot say. »
Philippe Abril is an award-winning French painter who has exhibited in both solo and group events nationally. Within his works, he conveys his amazement of having ‘landed on this fabulous planet’. Abril’s naive narrative paintings are mostly made using acrylics, as its fast drying qualities give him the freedom to mix other mediums more easily.
