About this artwork
It is a work executed from cullet (broken tempered glass), saturated, in a bath of casting epoxy resin, it belongs to the FLOAT SHARDS series.
The material obtained by the artist is new, it is both smooth, because the resin used is self-leveling and reveals, after complete polymerization, a surface similar to that of still clear water, and rough, by the existence uniform glass gravel, spread over the entire canvas.
This complex darkness is not… an obstacle to entering the work, on the contrary, because it is blurred and moving, it is permeable.
The colored surfaces thus treated are not closed screens, the thickness that emanates from the work corresponds rather to a deep lightness.
Marked by the territories that were his, Architecture and Engineering in particular,
Philippe FARES proceeds in this work, to a real erasure of places and goes irreversibly towards abstraction.
Philippe Fares is a contemporary French artist whose career has been profoundly shaped by the diversity of cultures and the interaction of art and science. His unique perspective, sharpened by a childhood spent in sub-Saharan Africa, is a testament to his early exposure to the art world, particularly to the influence of primitive arts. Returning to France at the age of 16, Philippe embarked on a path that allowed him to cultivate his understanding of Western arts while pursuing scientific studies.
Philippe Fares’ artworks are meticulously constructed using scientific methods and careful planning. His creations often feature a recurring tiling pattern, a meticulously balanced play with chance. This synthesis of meticulous design and the unpredictability of chance gives his works a dynamic and intriguing quality.
